Carrie Underwood seems to have achieved it all in so short an amount of time. Truly the American dream come true. At the time she won American Idol in 2005, she was not only singing her way to lasting fame, Carrie was also at 5’3”, considered by many to be somewhat chubby. Only a size 6 but at 130 pounds, her petite figure needed some work to sustain the level of activity she knew was on her horizon.
Immediately, Carrie realized that in order to jet-start her new career, she needed to get in shape, lose weight and create a sustainable level of energy. Giving up favorites like pasta and fast foods were her first choice.

While on tour, she does her own grocery shopping, stocking up on veggies, fruits, nuts and good whole grains. Eating properly on the road is the toughest part, says Carrie. She absolutely refuses to eat out and keeps a well stocked refrigerator while at home, so she is not tempted to indulge in anything she may regret later!
Carrie became a vegetarian at 13, while being raised on a cattle farm. While also being the basis of her animal rights advocacy, Carrie is now aware that it is very important to balance and plan our meals as we get older to maintain or lose current weight. Extra care must be planned for a vegetarian diet, so as to get enough protein and fats to remain healthy.
And of course, her wedding last summer to hockey player Mike Fischer really put her on the fast track to getting fit. Personal trainer Tony Greco created a program especially for Carrie during those
preceding months of winning awards, touring and getting ready for her celebrity status wedding! Tony Greco is Canada’s top fitness specialist in the Ottawa area. He also developed the ‘Greco Lean and Fit’ and ‘Yoga Lean’. Tony is the trainer for many of the top NHL hockey players, even Mike Fischer, Carrie’s new hubby! Cardio, weights and yoga are highlights of Greco’s training. Carrie particularly enjoys the medicine ball exercises for her cardio workout.
The Carrie Underwood diet is basically a combination of eating properly, watching her caloric intake instead of needless calories of no nutritional value, implementing her vegetarian discipline and cardio workouts. Carrie was even voted the “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian” in 2005!
One of the most important weapons fighting fat in the Carrie Underwood diet arsenal has been the food diary she is reported to keep. Journaling everything she eats every day helps her refine her diet to eliminate needless, non-nutritional calories.
Recent findings, published in the the American Journal of Preventive Medicine regarding food journaling discovered that the more food records people keep, the more weight they lost. As a matter of fact, they are likely to lose twice as much as those who do not keep an account of their daily intake! Actually writing down our food intake helps us consume less calories.
And being trained by a top hockey fitness trainer, dieting, touring, remaining a consistent humanitarian and animal advocate and now a newly-wed, would indicate the type of commitment it takes for Carrie to remain as slender and fashionable as she is.
The Carrie Underwood diet is a reminder that the big pay off comes with a corresponding amount of sweat, hard work and planning.
