Wine Trax – Wine Calories Made Easy
Wine Trax the measuring wine glass, is a simple but brilliant idea that can help you keep tabs on your wine portion size.
A glass of wine can be a delicious treat even when you are dieting. Wine, especially red wine, offers heart healthy benefits that can make moderate consumption a good thing. But when it comes to alcohol, portion control is important. And it is so easy to over do.
Wine Trax – Easy, Elegant Wine Portions
If you are pouring from a bottle it is easy to pour to much. And if you are pouring from a box, chances are good you are even more generous with the wine portions. Wine glasses tend to make a large amount of wine look deceptively small, making it very easy to over fill a glass.
The Wine-Trax makes it very easy to see exactly how much wine you are serving. Wine Trax is the creation of Gail Curtis. Gail developed the stemware to help her stay on track with the Weight Watchers points plan.

Wine-Trax, the measuring wine glass
Along with Wine Trax the measuring wine glass, Gail also developed Snack-Trax, measuring snack bowls and Meal-Trax measuring dinner plate. The pieces are made of clear glass. The glasses and bowls have frosted rings to indicate portion size. The plates use lines. The pieces are simple, elegant and functional.
What is a Serving Size of Wine?
If you check different sources you will get a different result, anywhere from 3.5 to 5 ounces is listed as a portion. The other night at a restaurant the bartender served me a glass of wine that had 8 ounces! For Wine Trax, Gail followed the guidelines of the American Heart Association – 4 ounces for a serving size of wine. The Weight Watchers wine portion size is also 4 ounces.
How Many Calories in Wine?
Wine calories differ from one type of wine to another. The alcohol content determines the calories. The higher the alcohol the more calories. Port for example has about 50 calories per ounce. A lite wine about 16. In general, a good rule of thumb is 25 calories per ounce.
How Do the Wine Trax Measuring Wine Glasses Work?
The Wine Trax glasses make wine calories easy. The first etched line in the glass is 4 ounces. The second line is 6 ounces and the third line is 8 ounces. Filled to the brim, the glass can hold 11 ounces. Pour to the desired line, calculate 25 calories per average ounce of wine and you know exactly how many wine calories you are drinking. So, one pour to the first etched line is about 100 calories. Pour to the 6 ounce line and you are around 150 calories and top to the 8 ounce line and you are at 200 calories. It is very easy to see how many calories you are consuming. No more wine “calorie amnesia”.
Wine Trax – Perfect for Day and Evening
The Wine Trax measuring glasses are like a great outfit that you can dress up for evening or down for day. These glasses are not just for wine. Since I got my set of Wine Trax, I have used them every day. In the morning for water, green tea through out the day and they help me stay on track with a glass or two of wine in the evening.
Think about it. Assuming 25 calories in a class of wine, if you over drink wine by just two measly ounces a day, that is an additional 1500 calories per month – a weight gain of about 5 pounds a year!
The cost per two Wine Trax glasses is around $29, when you think of the savings to your waistline, it is well worth it.
Lovely glasses, very versatile and functional!
